Here is some of what is on offer in 2009

The archaeology, culture and history of the Western Oases is Egypt’s best kept secret. Now is the time to discover the Islands of the Blessed. Join us on a 12 day trip to Egypt with a focus on the Oases.

The aim of the trip is to explore the ecology, geology and geography of the oases, to focus on hidden and unknown archaeological sites whilst not ignoring the major sites, to meet with local archaeologists and discuss their work, to meet friendly families and enjoy traditional local hospitality from time to time as well as perhaps some genuine music, and finally to have an enormous amount of fun while we do this. The trip is a celebration of all that life in the oases means from prehistory to modern schooling with many a stop in between, including several closed sites such as the newly located "water mountain" and other rare and hidden finds.

  JUNE 26th
Turkey. Join us for a long weekend in Istanbul, one of our favourite cities, and a feast for the mind, the palate and the spirit. We will take 3 nights at a serviceable city centre hotel, near many really good restaurants, and have two full days of exploration in one of the world's truly great cities. We will visit the extraordinary Topkapi Palace, a city within a city, the excellent collections at the archaeological museum, Sinan's justly famed Blue Mosque, the immense bazaar, the frescoes and mosaics at the Chora Museum and surely one of the finest of man's architectural achievements the awe-inspiring Aya Sofia.

AUGUST 21st
England. With flight demand high and classic Mediterranean destinations overcrowded here is an unusual, stimulating and enjoyable long weekend for you to consider. Come and join me for a couple of nights in Salisbury for an ultimate weekend of Ancient Britain. We will be going inside the stone circle at Stone Henge, visiting Wood Henge and the excavations at Durrington Walls - bigger and older than Stone Henge itself. While we are here we will also visit mysterious Avebury and West Kennet Long Barrow all with a local expert. We will dine together and also visit the soaring Salisbury Cathedral. Salisbury is easily accessible by bus, car or train. I think this will really be a weekend to remember.

SEPTEMBER 12th
Bulgaria. We LOVE Bulgaria; the people, the landscape, the towns, the food and most particularly the incredible depth and wealth of history. From some of the most fascinating neolithic sites and finds I have ever seen, via some amazing Thracian tombs, remote Roman ruins and stunning early churches to some outstanding museums with incredible pottery and golden treasures from all ages, for me Bulgaria just about has it all. We will explore no less than seven great civilizations and I feel sure the emerging nation of today will make its impression also. It exceeds and defies expectation and we would love to share this amazing country with you on this 11 day trip meeting local experts and academics along the way.

OCTOBER 15th
Egypt. Another special itinerary - we don't do any other kind - and another special trip to Egypt. This 12 day tour starts in Cairo and heads out to the Faiyum with a very thorough exploration of the remote pyramids and temples dotted throughout the region and a visit to the unforgettable Wadi Hetan to see the whale fossils and more. From here we pass by all the oases except Siwa and finally travel down the legendary "forty day road" for an unforgettable night camping under the stars near the astonishing and hardly known prehistoric site of Nabta. We finish back in the Nile Valley before flying home.

NOVEMBER 12th
Iran. We are lucky to know the country well. The huge landscapes are so impressive and the layer on layer of history is apparent wherever you travel. This important journey will take in the great sites of antiquity at Susa and Chogha Zanbil, the legendary city of Persepolis, austere Pasargad, the tombs and carvings of the Persian Kings and will also cover the incredible wealth of Islamic sites in Isfahan. If you have ever dreamed of seeing Isfahan or Persepolis then let's make the dream happen, come and take two weeks in Iran meeting local academics and friends along the way.

DECEMBER 4th
France. In early December there will be a long weekend break to Paris and the Louvre. This will depart by Eurostar from London St Pancras and include 2 nights at a modest but central city hotel. The group will dine together on the Friday night and plan the next day's major visit to perhaps the world's greatest museum - the Louvre. A two part guided tour will concentrate on both ancient history and the amazing art collection. Sunday morning gives us time to take in the Left Bank or Montmartre for example before taking a light lunch and then the fast train back to London.

Old Kinggom mastabas, prehistoric rock art, roman fortresses, early churches, greek temples, beautiful pharaonic tombs, golden mummies, breathtaking landscape, good food, decent hotels, friendly people, the oases have it all and are undiscovered by the mass tourist.
